Dear anonymous reviewer:
Although this fic in question started out as kinkmeme fill, and was posted there broken up into segments, that was only because LJ has a very finite comment space. Even so, you gave no indication of reading the original fill (which was a bit pants, so I'm glad you at least saw the good version). That said, no. I was not meant to be broken up into chapters. It's only 12,000 words. Three or four chapters, as you suggested, would disrupt the flow, as there's no logical place for any real chapter breaks. There are scene breaks, yes, but the scenes are of uneven lengths and only Douglas Adams and very few other people can pull off wildly-varied chapter lengths and not be annoying about it.
Sorry.
Dear unsigned reviewer:
These are all excellent questions you raise! I'd love to answer them for you, but I can't answer unsigned reviews. This story ties directly into the WIP you've commented on several times, and Loki being afraid of water ties into chapter four of it, when he nearly drowns. It's a very subtle reference/riff on his very first appearance in Journey into Mystery all those years ago when Thor told the reader that Loki's magic can't work when he's wet. I imagine it would be very difficult indeed to do magic whilst drowning.
The issue with the Jötun was hinted at, and goes back to the myth this little fic is retelling. Thor killed someone and the Jötun wanted revenge. Keeping Loki prisoner was just an easy way to get it. Loki, as he told Thor, would have said anything to escape, including agreeing to give Thor up for his death. Because he's Loki, and he's a little brat.
Nornheimr was left deliberately unresolved. It might come back. It might not. We'll just have to see.
Sjálfsmynd is another thing from the WIP I'm working on, though this is the first time it's come up by name. It's sort of like a big spirit journey Asgardian men take to prove themselves as men and all that guff. It's very culturally significant, but Loki thinks it's all really dumb, as he does most things the Asgardians think he should do.
