Quick tutorial - multi-coloured woven knitting

There is probably a proper name for this, because I refuse to believe that I just made it up one night in my bedroom. I've been using this method for years as a way to switch colours mid-row, because it's a very simple, very clean way to do it. You don't get loose threads hanging off the back of your fabric, and if you're particularly crafty, you can even mirror the design on the back so that nothing appears backwards (or do a different design entirely, but that's amazingly tricksy).

Mostly, I just let the back of the fabric be backwards, because that way is quickest and easiest. People who have known me for a while have probably seen this old thing kicking around before:



It's important to note that this only seems to work with continental (picking). If you knit English, it doesn't seem to want to sit properly. I'd suggest learning how to pick if you're going to try this.
