December Posting Meme
Dec. 7th, 2014 12:18 pmI don't have anything for today either, but there's something I could talk about anyway. If you still want to add things to my list for me to talk about, http://loki-of-sassgaard.dreamwidth.org/47708.html
So, on the topic of WIPs and multiple continuities. I've got a few of them going right now, plus a few more that aren't even being posted. They're all, with one exception, for Thor in one way or another, and a question I get asked from time to time is how I'm able to keep track of everything without getting events confused or crossing the streams.
The short answer is I don't.
The long answer is that usually, whatever the most interesting (to me) idea becomes the one I use in ever fic. The worldbuilding in Trickster God is exactly the same as the worldbuilding in Midgard Legends. In Midgard Legends, Loki gets stressed and fatigued a few times after pushing himself too far. Depending on the type of magic he's doing, that stress manifests in certain ways. Loki in Trickster God operates on a few rules, but the main one is that he is not allowed to get his magic back. In human terms, he's been awake for about a day and a half and hasn't eaten anything since breakfast yesterday. He's feeling the same fatigue as Loki in the other fic, but on a much larger scale. But I know what hurts him, and what different kinds of magic will do to him while he's drained because I already worked that out while I was worldbuilding for Midgard Legends.
Also, none of my stories are the same. They'll have similar themes that carry over, but they're not following the same paths. Midgard Legends is a WWII adventure across Europe to find the Fountain of Youth. Trickster God is all emotion and manipulation against a backdrop of an international road trip, and Tarbell is very secretly Journey into Mystery -1, plus the first few issues of Thor's initial appearance in the book, set in Las Vegas. There's lies and manipulation in all three, but they're all used for different means. Loki in Midgard Legends just wants to get the Tesseract, and has become distracted by another forbidden object, because he's a fucking flake. Loki in Trickster God has the singular goal of getting off Midgard and the hell away from the humans until he has the strength and means to wage war against them. And Loki in Tarbell has lost his mind, and cares only for destroying Thor in any way possible. In that regard, there isn't much crossover.
And when all else fails, I have a few notebooks full of the details I always forget, like ranks and outfits for the Howling Commandos, Loki's set list when he goes onstage, and his itinerary as he crosses Canada.
