Christmas!
Dec. 27th, 2014 11:29 amI've not been around much, because I've been killing myself making Christmas presents. I'd get up at like, nine every morning, and work non stop until 2am. But I got everything done that I needed to get done, and even got to go to bed somewhat early on Christmas eve (1am, woo).
But the gifts went over very well. August cackled like a lunatic when she opened hers and I explained what it meant, so it definitely went over well. I actually wasn't really able to finish Zoe's, but I wasn't too bothered. I got pretty far on it, and it was far enough that it didn't matter that my DVD drive blew up halfway through burning a billion DVDs. It did mean I didn't get to do for Miranda exactly what I wanted to, but it was fine. The noisiest kid on the planet sat down with the comics we gave her, and didn't say a word for two hours. I think she liked them. Mum also really liked hers. We got her a metal strainer, to replace the plastic one that was in two pieces and impossible to use. She laughed and said that she'd already replaced it, only to have broken it immediately. Sure enough when we got home, I found another plastic one with a crack all down one side. If she breaks this new one, she's just not allowed to have strainers anymore.
But Christmas was good. My mum's party on Christmas eve was cancelled at the last minute, because my nephew decided he wanted to be a Christmas eve baby, and was born five weeks early. Last I heard, they had him in the incubator until his lungs stop sticking together when he breathes, but he's gonna be fine, and his mum's fine. Though, we were all joking that this is just another birthday right at Christmas time that nobody's going to have the energy to care about, so we might as well all pretend he was born in May or something. But seriously, within this family, he's number ten to have a birthday within a month of Christmas. We're not very big on birthdays in this family.
I got a couple of nice things, too. My mum got me a printed canvas with the Avengers on (she got Robin Hood one with Captain America), and Robin Hood got me a Hawkeye hoodie. I also got a big grey hoodie, and a new set of glasses and cups for when we move out. Robin Hood also got me a few games on Steam, which I haven't even had the chance to look at yet. I spent all day in bed yesterday, just staring at the wall because I was so fucking tired. I'm gonna try to get some writing done today, and may even go downstairs to do it, since I'm home alone.
But aside from spending all day on Christmas having an allergic reaction to my breakfast, and then getting mauled by my aunt's dog*, it was good. It was really nice to actually be able to participate in Christmas this year, instead of having to just sit there on the sidelines being embarrassed while everyone else is passing out their gifts. But seriously, next year, everyone's getting scarves.
*I'm fine. I'd worn my wellies, and the dog went for my ankle, and luckily only got a mouthful of boot. Had I not been wearing them, I'd have probably ended my Christmas in hospital though. I don't think the dog will be there for any more family holidays after this, though.
