I’m starting a new project today, to help keep me busy.  Kind of like fic remixes, but also really not.  I picked out a few short fics to start with (one 4k, and one 6k), and I’m going to attempt to turn them into comics.  Drawing seems low-impact enough that it doesn’t mess with me too much, so it’s pretty much all I’ve been able to do to keep from going nuts.  Of course, now I’m stuck at the issue of hosting, because the two fics on my list so far are both PWPs, because hey.  That’s the only kind of short fic I could find that also had elements that would be visually interesting.  Maybe the OTW might finally sort out image hosting on AO3.
Ha.  hahahahaha.  Maybe by the time I’m 50, when they finally announce they’ll be coming out of beta in five years.

The topic of fic archives has been coming up on meme a lot lately, particularly in relation to how difficult it is to actually find the fic you want to find.  Some people suggested browsing the bookmarks of authors they like, but that’s really no guarantee that you’ll find anything you want, either.

So, here’s the Collection Initiative. AO3 has collections, but they mostly seem to be used for exchanges and fests.  If you’re a collection maintainer for one whose sole purpose is to just collect fic for a similar theme, I invite you to list your collection at the DW community, and spread the word for others to do so as well.

Hopefully, we can get the ball rolling, and bring back those fic archives and character-specific LJ comms of yore.

I feel like I need an alpha reader for my WIP Big Bang fic, which is Midgard Legends.  I’m not looking for anyone to make corrections or anything, since I’m only working on the first draft, and I don’t do any editing on the first pass.  I mostly just need someone to read and cheerlead, since I can’t post new chapters as I go.

If you have iCloud access, that would be nice, since I write in Pages.  (All you need is an Apple ID; you can access it on any device with a browser.)  I can move it over to Gdocs if you would prefer, but I won’t be able to do that very often, since Gdocs lags like hell on my iPad.

I believe I’ve found everything from before, and have re-uploaded it all to AO3.  There were some fandoms I didn’t even remember writing for in there.  Also, of the almost 200 fics, about 50 of them were unfinished WIPs or art posts, neither of which I wanted to upload.  Had I uploaded the WIPs, I probably could have actually topped 1,000,000 words, but I didn’t want a whole bunch of abandoned WIPs up there, especially since I have so many I’m trying to finish as it is.

902,870 / 1,000,000

But that’s where I’m at now! SO CLOSE!  It doesn’t count anything that’s not been posted to AO3 yet, so the new chapters of Midgard Legends and When The Dust Settles will probably bump that to within spitting distance.  I’m definitely going to reach it this year though.  Barring something catastrophic, anyway.

But as far as I can tell, I’ve got no more backdated works to post.  If I ever do decide to finish any of these WIPs, they won’t be backdated, since it’s slightly obnoxious to keep doing that.  Also, apparently I lost two user subscriptions this week.  lol I guess they really hate Hot Fuzz or Sherlock.  That, or my old stuff from high school really offended them.

I woke up this morning, and realised I had accidentally ruined my last few tootsie pops by accidentally dropping the bag they’re in into my water when I went to bed.  Kind of annoying, but they’re like, twenty cents each down at Winco.  I buy them by the pound.  But I was making noise about it, and Robin Hood made this big, dramatic frown at me, and said that if I’m good at my doctor’s appointment, he’ll buy me a new one.  What an ass.

But my appointment’s in a few hours.  I was worried that with the huge wait, by the time I got to my appointment, that the problem would have gone away on its own.  My lymph nodes went away for a while, but they came back last night.  And my left arm in particular is numb as fuck today.  It’s weird to be glad that a problem is persisting, but at least I actually have a valid complaint, instead of “well, it was bugging me last week…”

I’ve got a stack of stuff I need to send out today, which I should have done yesterday, but sleep deprivation from this whole thing is making it really hard to concentrate.  And doing orders isn’t really something one should be doing on half a brain.  Bah.

In other, less doomsdayish news, Marvel Bang is starting up soon.  I’ve participated in the past as an artist, but I think this year, I want to do it as an author.  I know, I’ve got so many other WIPs going right now, but Midgard Legends might actually finish before artist claiming even starts for WIP Big Bang, the way I’m going with that, and I’m working on When the Dust Settles on the side.  Having a WIP that’s not being posted probably won’t really affect anything.  The problem is I’m not sure what I’ll actually do.  There’s a Thorki arranged marriage idea I’ve had for a while, and I’ve also got something I want to do with Justin Hammer, which probably won’t be long enough for a big bang.  IDK, what is the length requirement for Marvel Big Bang?  Does anyone know?  I’ll probably still do the arranged marriage one, just because it’s most likely to annoy people, and therefore most likely to be the one I have more fun with.

I’ve missed doing Big Bangs.  WIP Big Bang just made a post last night, showing all the different fandoms and pairings involved this year, and there were a hell of a lot of sign-ups.  I’m looking forward to seeing what the list looks like once everyone’s signed up.  But yeah, I want to get that fic done as soon as I can.  Which will be a lot easier if my arms don’t fall off, so here’s hoping.

I got about 40 fics up (thought it looked like more in the emails, because a lot of them were multi-chapter), before I reached the point where it started to feel like my arms were gonna fall off.  Which is a thing that’s happening these days.  So I shut everything down and got dinner in the oven.  Not sure what I’m gonna do tonight.  Might read a bit, or maybe work on fic.  Not sure.

I looked into getting more channels unlocked from the cable company, but I’m not sure if I can do that without also including actual television service.  Which, uh.  I don’t have a television.  I just want to watch on my iPad.  I’ll call about that tomorrow, I guess.

My doctor appointment’s on Wednesday.  I’m looking forward to it, but also really nervous.  The thing with my arms trying to fall off is getting worrysome.  And irritating.

I’ve got a bunch of stuff that needs to go out tomorrow.  In addition to that, I want to try some home made ravioli some time this week.  Which, I have a feeling I’m going to need Robin Hood’s help for, given the state of my arms.  Making the dough is probably going to hurt a lot.  Just sitting in bed hurts, but sitting up at my desk was starting to kill my back, so yay.  Nothing is nice.

Not for here, but if you subscribe to me on AO3.  I’m going to be going through and re-uploading everything I’ve ever done (if I still have it, that is).  Fic will probably go back about ten years.  I don’t think I’ll upload any unfinished WIPs, and I don’t think I still have anything saved from before I started posting fic on LJ.

There is a LOT of it, though.  According to my email, almost 200 deleted fics from AO3.  Why did I delete them?  No idea.  But they’re coming back.  Even the really embarrassing ones.

This may be a poor idea, but it seems like something worth trying.  But I’ve just started a Fanfic Book Club on GoodReads.  Why GoodReads?  Because it’s already big and established, so there’s no worry that it will suddenly disappear one day, and the message-board format easily lends to multiple discussions at once.  I considered sticking this up on DW, but it seemed like it might have the potential to get really spammy, if this takes off, given the multi-fandom nature of it.

Check it out, start up a club, invite your friends.  I’ll probably be starting up one soon, as soon as I find something to read.

Today, I am going to try to finish two one-shots: one which I’m writing for someone, and one for Trope Bingo.  I really need to get going on Trope Bingo, if I’m to have any chance of making it on time.

Kaiser called today to let me know a bunch of stuff about my upcoming appointment.  They’ve got this neat co-pay calculator, so it looks like I can expect to pay $15-25 next week.  Unless they order a specific test, which I feel like they might?  Then it will be $600, which is not really reasonable at all.  I don’t know how anybody is expected to pay for this stuff.

But I’m just going to pretty much ignore everything but fic today, and then spend the weekend dying floss.  That seems like the best use of time right now.
